Position Description Koorie Tutor All Indigenous students have priority access to education and training programs whilst in custody. This position is responsible for providing dedicated provision of active mentoring and tutoring in class to individuals and groups of Koorie Students to support their attainment of relevant competencies in education programs that are not Koorie specific, i.e. Certificates in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or Certificates in Mumgu-dhal tyama-tyit community connection and pathways.

About the Organisation The organisation is one of the largest TAFEs in Victoria with nine campuses stretching from Docklands to Echuca, and will grow to include new campuses at Castlemaine, Sunbury, Melton and a Technical School at Broadmeadows, this is in additional to being the largest provider of education in Victorian Correctional facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Apply coaching, mentoring and support to assist with classroom engagement and attendance.
Communicate regularly with teaching staff on learners barriers to education and gather information on the needs of students with respect to classroom activities.
Daily use of the Justice Education & Training System (JETS) to assist learner identification process.
Manage appointments for learners and maintain records and documentation of learning focus and progress.
Key Selection Criteria The position is required to:
Have completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or hold a formal qualification in Adult Education
Have a strong understanding of Indigenous culture and identity.
Be culturally competent
Have experience working in and with Indigenous communities (preferably local communities); have a sound working knowledge and capability to address learning issues that Indigenous students may encounter, such as potentially past negative education experience;
Maintain broad knowledge of local Indigenous community issues and model culturally sensitive behaviours and values.
