Position Description
Community Engagement & Communications Cadet
We’re looking for cadets to work on the Northeast Link Road upgrade project, with a major construction company in Melbourne. The primary objective of this position is to support the project team to deliver coordinated and effective communication and engagement activities to enhance the project/company’s reputation and minimise community opposition to the project. All our employees have a key role in ensuring the success of NEL’s health, safety, environmental & quality management program and to fulfil this, each person must adopt the Projects core safety and environmental values.
Location: Docklands, then moving on to Kew, Melbourne
Type:  Full time during the winter university semester holiday and the summer break, plus up to 3 days a week during term time        
Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per annum (pro rata) dependent on exp

Key Responsibilities
We are looking for someone with great communication skills and a passion for working with the community and stakeholders!
The following key accountabilities relate to this position:
  1. Support the project to implement the project’s communication and engagement plan to maximise community and stakeholder support and minimise reputation risk for the project.
  2. Develop good working relationships with the project construction team to ensure activities are undertaken strategically, minimising impact and disruption to stakeholders and the community.
  3. Assist in preparing communication materials including works notifications, project updates/newsletters, correspondence, media releases, content for web/social media, presentations, traffic alerts and other publications in line with client branding and approval timeframe requirements.
  4. Assist with management of the community and stakeholder enquiries and complaints, including staffing the 24-hour 1800 number.
  5. Coordinate and work with the communications team to deliver project events including community and stakeholder meetings, urban design exhibitions, launches and media events, open days and workshops.
  6. Update and maintain the project photo library and community relations database including the recording of enquiries/complaints received and stakeholder interactions.


 
  1. Assist with the consultation activities with community members and key stakeholders in the development of the Project’s Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) Consultation Report.
  2. Support regular stakeholder and community meetings as required, record keeping for action items, including Community Reference Groups.
  3. Assist in the identification, development and management of promotional opportunities for the project and its construction (i.e. media, presentations, milestones etc.).
  4. Participate and assist with activities undertaken by the wider Communications team as appropriate.
  5. Maintain up to date knowledge and application of, legislation, industry standards and technological innovations as relevant to your role.
  6. Perform all duties in accordance with NEL policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures.

Key Selection Criteria
About this Role
This role forms part of a recognized Traineeship pathway, combining on-the-job learning with a structured course of study. Assistance and support are provided by Skills First Victoria, Team Manager and EHBA Capability and Inclusion lead. The preferred study pathway for this position is the Certificate 111 in Business (Online delivery).
Qualifications (Essential)
  • Formally recognised qualifications are not essential for this role as on the job learning and formal training forms part of the pathway.
  • However, Well-developed interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills are essential.
  • Driver’s licence
Experience
  • Commitment to working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Confidence when speaking to groups, individuals and the public
  • Positive and engaging professional presentation
  • Agility to work effectively on a fast-paced high profile civil construction project
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite. Mainly Excel.
