About the Role The Independent First Nations Delegate provides an opportunity to gain practical experience within a large public sector Board environment while contributing an independent First Nations perspective. The role supports Board discussions by bringing cultural insight, community perspectives and lived experience to key strategic and operational matters. It is designed as a development pathway to support future Board and governance opportunities. While the Delegate contributes to Board discussions, they are not responsible for formal Board decision-making.
Responsibilities
Participate in Board meetings and contribute independent perspectives
Provide input into strategic direction and organisational priorities
Contribute to discussions on organisational culture and workplace safety
Provide insight into operational and financial performance considerations
Support discussions relating to environmental, social and cultural outcomes
Contribute perspectives on community connection and Aboriginal values
Participate in Board committee meetings where applicable
Engage in Board strategy sessions, development activities and site visits
Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all engagements
Key Selection Criteria
Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and currently reside in Victoria
Understanding of communities and stakeholders within the organisation’s service area
Demonstrated interest in governance, Board environments or leadership development
Interest in environmental sustainability, community outcomes or infrastructure services
Ability to contribute thoughtful perspectives to group discussions
Willingness and capacity to build knowledge and capability in Board governance
Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with a range of stakeholders
Skills and Attributes

Role Details
Part-time Board Delegate position
Attendance at approximately eight Board meetings per year
Participation in at least one Board Committee (approximately four meetings per year)

Term of appointment until September 2027
