The Role
Make a difference for First Peoples in the Norther Suburbs!
The Aboriginal Youth Development Officer will work alongside the Aboriginal Communities Unit to raise the voices and profile of First Peoples youth in the municipality. This position will develop the capacity of young people to connect and contribute to the local community and beyond. The role will work collaboratively with Council’s Youth Development team to implement a wide variety of responses to the barriers affecting the access and participation of young people within the community.

The Aboriginal Youth Development Officer will also assist with the coordination and/or deliver of any general programs or events managed by the Aboriginal Communities Unit within established policies, processes and decision-making frameworks.

The position leads the Partnerships and Programs team to deliver on Council’s strategic actions and directions, including:
  • Coordinating and delivering strategic and culturally safe programming & activities at the Aboriginal Gathering Place and throughout the municipality.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders.
  • Strategic management, operation and service delivery of the Aboriginal Gathering Place.
  • Contributing to the implementation of the Aboriginal Action Plan.
  • Providing support and expertise to internal stakeholders on programming and service delivery.
  • Supporting Our Reconciliation Action Group as required.
  • Supporting the Aboriginal Gathering Place Advisory Group as required.
About you
Note: This position is only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

 
  • You will have a practical working knowledge and understanding of youth work informed by ethical, developmental, community and strength-based principles and practices. You will leverage your prior experience working with First Peoples youth, to deliver a range of services in partnership working with services, agencies and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations.
  • Current Police Check (National Police Certificate) for employment.
  • Current Working with Children (WWC) Check
