The Role The Senior Project Officer will be responsible for:
Leading the planning, coordination, and delivery of key national projects
Facilitating strong relationships with members, stakeholders, government, and community partners
Supporting national advocacy, policy engagement, submissions, and strategic initiatives
Coordinating consultations, workshops, forums, and stakeholder events
Overseeing project reporting, evaluation, milestones, and compliance requirements
Ensuring all activities uphold cultural integrity and community priorities
Seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Project Officer to lead priority projects that strengthen the voices, rights, and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women across Australia. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to national advocacy, deliver community-led initiatives, and support meaningful policy reform that creates tangible outcomes for our women, families, and communities. You will work closely with the CEO and Board to progress Our strategic objectives and represent the organisation at a national level.
About You: You are a highly organised, proactive professional with experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and administrative support — ideally within an Indigenous, advocacy, or not-for-profit organisation. You are committed to Our mission of advancing the rights and opportunities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and have a strong ability to manage completing priorities with attention to detail.
Experience leading projects in Indigenous affairs, gender equality, policy or community services
Strong stakeholder engagement skills grounded in respect, trust and cultural safety
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Strong writing skills, including reports, briefs and advocacy materials
A commitment to advancing the rights and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women

Proven experience in leading and delivering projects. Including project planning, coordination, budgeting, reporting, and meeting deliverable milestones.
Ability to work independently in fast-paced and changing environments.
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
Experience engaging respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, communities, and organisations.
Ability to build partnerships with government, non-government agencies, and advocacy networks.
High-level written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prepare reports, briefs, presentations, submissions, and advocacy materials.
Confident in representing your organisation in external meetings, forums, and consultations.
Understanding of the issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women Including knowledge of gender equality, community safety, health, social and economic wellbeing, and human rights.
Commitment to self-determination and culturally safe practice.
Ability to coordinate events, consultations, and engagement activities.
Experience organising meetings, workshops, or community forums.
Capability to support travel, logistics, scheduling, and documentation needs.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to prioritise competing deadlines
Experience maintaining accurate records and compliance reporting.
Digital and administrative capability.
Competence using Microsoft Office Suite and digital systems.
Ability to support information management, documentation, and administration tasks
Essential Requirements
Ability to satisfy a National Criminal History Check
Identifies as Aboriginal And/or Torres Strait Islander and has lived experience across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage, communities
Ability to travel at short notice
Ability to work remotely and independently
Desirable Criteria (not required but highly valued).
Qualifications in project management, policy, community services, or gender equality fields.
You must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
Experience working in a peak body, not-for-profit, community-controlled, or advocacy
Experience in research or evaluation activities
Understanding of governance processes and reporting requirements
Interstate travel required, including small plane travel as necessary
