Djirra are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Finance Officer to drive financial success through strategic analysis, budgeting, and reporting in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This position is to ensure that Djirra’s financial records are maintained, staff and creditors paid, income received and assets purchased and registered, all in a timely and accurate manner.

We are an active member of the National Family Violence Prevention and Legal Services Forum, the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are experiencing or at risk of family violence.

Key Accountabilities:

Accounting & Bookkeeping Duties:
  • Set up new creditors/employees for reimbursement/travel expenses, ready for supervisor’s review.
  • Check purchase orders for accuracy, including bank details, tax compliance, and internal coding, ready for supervisor’s review.
  • Prepare employee travel allowance claims for review.
  • Prepare payments to suppliers for review, and send remittances once paid.
  • Prepare payments made on behalf of clients, ready for supervisor’s review. This may include but not limited to arranging quotes, making payments, updating FSP (Flexible Support Packages) financial records and data entry for reporting.
  • Raise purchase orders if required.
  • Convert purchase requisition to invoices and review coding, ready for supervisor’s approval.
  • Receipt of funds.
  • Daily review of bank balances
  • Daily bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly support payment reconciliations.
  • Assist with administering the asset register, including physical asset stock takes.
  • Act as back up for other members of the team when required, and in line with the level of the role.
  • Assisting in generating of reports, as directed by the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
  • Assisting in Internal and External Audits, as directed by the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.

Key Selection Criteria:

Professional / Functional Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to work or learn to work with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals in culturally appropriate ways as well as mainstream organisations.
  • Experience or certificate in Bookkeeping or Accounting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, inc. familiarity with MS suite of tools
Competency:
  • Sensitivity, insight, humour and warmth dealing with all people, but especially with those who may have experienced challenging circumstances over time such as trauma, discrimination and cultural and/or social isolation.
  • Good skills in influencing and negotiating, fostering collaboration, understanding various perspectives and getting the best outcomes for all.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised with ability to plan, prioritise and complete own work efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Qualifications:
  • A certificate (or near finished) in Accounting or Bookkeeping, or experience in an equivalent role
Other:
  • A Victorian Employees Working with Children’s Check card or willing to obtain one
  • Willing to obtain a Police Check at Djirra’s expense
